I currently work as a broadcast journalist, making daily 3-minute news and feature films for an online newspaper/magazine.
As part of my job I am always meeting and connecting with people, with the aim of telling, or encouraging them to tell, their story. But the newsroom environment must be fast-paced with a high-turnover of material, meaning that potentially amazing, enlightening and entertaining stories are rarely given a chance to develop beyond bare facts.
And so I'm often left thinking: "wow that's a beautiful/ inspiring/ downright disturbing story... and it would make for SUCH a good documentary, jeeeeez".
I want to make programmes which will explore these individual stories and issues further, delve deeper, to captivate, inform, and move an audience!
I currenty research my own material, self-shoot, interview, voiceover/ present on, and edit (phew!)my own footage.
Am super excited by multi-platform possibilities, the Sheffield Doc/Fest, especially, really opened my eyes to what can be done!
My favourite moment in this mad media world: Interviewing white-suited Martin Bell on Panorama.
